‘Marrying off Morgan McBride’ by Amy Barry

Amy Barry is back with another tale from the McBrides of Montana series! Marrying off Morgan McBride is the highly anticipated second installment in the series following on from Kit McBride Gets a Wife.

"Morgan McBride is tough as nails - but a surprise mail-order bride is enough to have him quaking in his cowboy boots."

Set in the idyllic town of Buck's Creek, Montana in 1887, Amy Barry takes us on a historical romance journey that will have you swooning and longing for warm summer nights sat around the campfire, the peace and tranquility of the country and maybe a stubborn cowboy or two. Junebug the little sister of Morgan, Kit, Beau and Jonah Mcbride is back to her old tricks but this time she's focussed on her oldest brother Morgan.

Morgan McBride gave up his life on the road when Ma passed away and now that things have finally settled in Buck's Creek he's ready to saddle away into the sunset. However, Junebug has other ideas and with the help of The Matrimonial Times she hatches a plan to get Morgan a mail-order bride. There's only one flaw in the plan, Morgan doesn't know and Morgan doesn't want a wife.

Marrying off Morgan McBride had me laughing out loud at the mischievous antics of Junebug McBride (who reminds me of Pippy Longstockings), feeling heartbroken for Pip Hopgood, and feeling a little frustrated with Morgan McBride who is very set in his ways. In this book we have a lot of returning characters from Kit McBride Gets A Wife who are just as funny and loveable and somehow always happy to go along with Junebug's wild but well intentioned plans. As well a cast of new characters who are just as funny, loveable and fit right in at Buck's Creek.

You could read this as a stand-alone book but I do recommend reading Kit McBride Gets A Wife first to set the mood and get more character development. I would definitely recommend Marry Off Morgan McBride for someone looking for a light, laugh-out loud but also heartfelt read. Amy Barry has a way with historical romance that transports you to another time and really has captured all of the elements needed in a good romantic comedy.

4/5 stars

Spice note: unlike Kit Mcbride Gets A Wife this second installment has some open door romance scenes.
